WARNING: News reports on 23 June 2016 that David Leyonhjelm has done a preference deal with Labor. He has agreed to preference Labor in the House of Representatives (lower house) in return for their preferences in the Senate. If you want to vote for David but not Labor, be careful where you put your preferences.
The party that believes in small government, less regulation and low taxes - The Liberal Democrats - is an excellent party to consider if you're opposed to the nanny state approach by Governments. David Leyonhjelm was one of the only steadying voices of reason in the dysfunctional Senate. The Liberal Democrats are totally opposed to the increasing reliance on Government and believe in personal responsibility.

David's email to Brian Owler from the AMA about the Senate Enquiry into the Nanny State is below.
Lead Senate Candidate (QLD)
The government needs to spend less time (and money) worrying about what we drink, who we sleep with and whether or not we’ve got our seatbelts on; and more time safeguarding the rights and freedoms of ordinary Australians. As parents, consumers and citizens, we are in the best position to decide what is best for us, not the faceless bureaucrats of Canberra
